The announcement was made known by Air Commodore Musihau Adekunle Soladinye on Monday, while discussing with the press about AFIT's Convocation ceremony that is coming up on the 29th of July, 2016.

In his words, he said "several projects are either completed in our research and development or are in the conclusive states in the Institute. we are currently involved in the modification and conversion of some decommissioned Nigeria Air Force Beetle into Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV)."

Drones can be used for military works, used for search and rescue, surveillance, traffic monitoring, weather forecasting and many others.
