Gambia President Gets 3 Months Tenure Extension

Yahya Jammeh

After plans of taking out the incumbent President of Gambia, Yahya Jammeh on Wednesday, a decision was taken by the Gambia National Assembly; which passed a resolution that gave Jammeh a three-month tenure extension.

It was noted that in the December 2016 Presidential election, Jammeh lost to his opposition candidate Adama barrow. This comes after Jammeh ruled Gambia for over 22 years. Jammeh announced that the election results were flawed and unacceptable. The President-Elect of Gambia, Adama barrow still insisted that his inauguration will go ahead on Thursday on Gambian soil.

Jammeh declared a state of emergency in Gambia on Tuesday. Jammeh said there was "extraordinary" foreign interference in the country's post-electoral crisis.
