Fire Razes Warehouse, Mechanic village and two-storey building in Lagos


Properties worth millions of Naira were, yesterday, destroyed as fire razed a private warehouse, mechanic village and two-storey building in Orile-Iganmu axis of Lagos State.

While two of the affected properties were located at Akinwande Roundabout, few metres away from Eleganza Plaza, the other was sited at 23 Igunmu Street, Oja Bus Stop. At the mechanic village, three cars, a truck and four sections of a block of warehouse containing household fixtures and fittings were razed at the Eleganza end of the axis.
 It was gathered that the first inferno, which started midday after a yet to be identified person set the bush within the mechanic village premises ablaze, spread to the warehouse, where four sections were razed.
It was gathered that the fire was left uncontrolled and after a few minutes, it spread to the vehicles and the warehouse.
 Confirming the disaster, the Director of the Lagos Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, disclosed that the intervention of the agency personnel prevented other property from been damaged by the fire disaster.
He noted that few metres away from the first disaster, another inferno occurred at 23 Igunnu Street, Oja Bus Stop, Orile Iganmu, where the ground floor of two-storey building was gutted by fire.

 The agency’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Shakiru Amodu, said aside the Orile inferno, over eight disasters were recorded across the state.
