VP Osinbajo's Speech In Kigali Focuses On Addressing Inequality and Poverty In African States

As the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo led the Nigeria delegation to a SDG meeting organised by the President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama at the 27th African Union Summit, Kigali Rwanda, his speech focused on tackling inequality and poverty.

 The Vice President while delivering a keynote speech urged other African countries to find ways of tackling "inequality and poverty".
 He said "In Nigeria in the current budget cycle, we have the largest social protection programme in the history of the country. It's a N500 billion programme."

"Basically we are looking at lifting many out of poverty, of course man are familiar with the size of the Nigerian state and we have close to 110 million people who are poor and about two-thirds of them are extremely poor."
 He said that the Buhari's administration was committed to addressing poverty and social inequality in Nigeria, that other African countries too should do so.
