Housewife accused of killing 3 year old stepdaughter

A 20-year-old housewife, Khadija Mohammed, was, yesterday, remanded in prison custody by a Makurdi magistrate’s court for alleged murder of her step-daughter.

The plea of the defendant was not taken as the court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the case, while the Magistrate, Mrs. Ajuma Igama, adjourned the case till March 28 for further mention.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Joel Yusuf, told the court that the case was reported at the ‘A’ Division Police Station, Makurdi, by one Abdulrahaman Abdullahi. The complainant stated that he discovered the corpse of his three-year-old daughter at an uncompleted building at Wadata Riverside.
During police investigation, the accused of 14 Lessel Street, Wadata, Makurdi, was arrested and confessed to committing the crime, saying she used a cement block to hit the deceased.

Yusuf said that investigation into the matter was still in progress and asked the court for an adjournment. He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 222 of the Penal Code Law of Benue State, 2004.
