Chief Obono-obla reveals shocking facts about Cross River State

The Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution, Chief Okoi Obono-obla has revealed some facts that the younger generation in Cross River didn’t know, as it was not written in history books.
The Barrister revealed this on his Facebook wall on Tuesday saying “A lot of the younger generation did not know that Ogoja served as the temporary Capital of the defunct South Eastern State from June, 1967 till about March,1968 with Chief Micheal Ani as the Sole Administrator of Ogoja Province and Acting Governor. Please read on as I reminisces on the history of Cross River State thus: When the defunct South Eastern State was created with Capital in Calabar! However, the Military Governor, Brigadier General Eusene did not resume work for several months because Calabar was under the occupation of the Biafran Army so a decision was taken that the capital should temporarily be in Ogoja which had already been liberated from the Biafran Army in June 1967.
A sole administrator was appointed for Ogoja Province ( which comprised of Obubra, Obudu,Ikom and Ogoja Divisions) in the person of Chief Micheal Ani ( he later was appointed Chairman of the defunct Federal Electoral Commission, Fedeco which conducted the 1979 general election) .
He was saddled with the responsibility to starting the public service of the young State and administering the State it till Calabar was liberated and the Military Governor resumed work.
Chief Michael Ani as Sole Administrator of Ogoja Province was ably assisted and supported by four young Civil Servants who were Assistant Divisional officers in charge of the Five divisions. Chief Wilfred Inah,OFR was Assistant Divisional Officer(ADO), Ikom; Mr Atuaka,ADO,Ogoja;Mr Micheal Monn,ADO,Obubra and Anthony Abuo,ADO,Obudu.
The administration moved to Calabar after it liberation in early 1968. Chief Micheal Ani was appointed Secretary to Government and Head of Service of the defunct South Eastern State.
He was a shrewd , meticulous, brilliant civil servant with glittering and dazzling credentials. He is therefore indisputably one of the founding fathers of the present Akwa Ibom and Cross River State in all ramifications.

The administration of Brigadier Eusene was undoubtedly the best in the history of the State in terms of prudent, sound management of resources, building of infrastructures and laying an excellent foundation for the young State. Some of the infrastructures put in place by the administration are still outstanding and living testimony of the hardwork, dedication and commitment of the administration.”
