“The cyclist man died on the spot while one of the passengers escaped and two others sustained bullets wounds. The cyclist was beheaded immediately,” he said.
However, one of the female passengers, Mrs Peace Emmanuel Enyieko was shot on the left thigh and left part of her waist and lips. Mrs Juliet David Osim who was also shot on her right shoulder. They are both responding to treatment.
Interestingly, Miss Ruth Osim Tom escaped into the bush unhurt.
Comrade Ogburuwa said that Divisional Police Officer, DPO in change of Ugep Police Station and his counterpart at the Itigidi Police Station in Abi local government area were in Usumutong upon the complaint officially lodge by the Usumutong community and they indeed saw the headless body of the late Mr Eric Omori Ewa alongside the three female survivors of the attack.
He said the matter is currently being handled by the Homicide Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Cross River State Police Command.
“More disheartening is the fact that the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Nigeria Police Force, Calabar invited some suspects (Chiefs and Youth Leaders) of Ediba Community for interrogation and possibly to produce the barbaric murderers of the late Mr Ewa but as usual but, the legal representative of the Ediba people, Barr Essien H. Andrew, interceded and pleaded with the Police to give his clients (Ediba community) time to prepare and attend the invitation.”

“It was based upon the plea of the learned counsel that the invitation of the Ediba Chiefs and Youth Leaders by the Police was rescheduled for Monday, 21st August 2017,” he further said.
