Senator
representing Kaduna central district in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani has
reacted to the alleged killing of 30 personnel of the Nigerian Army at Zari
village in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday.
Report had
claimed that scores of jihadists in trucks stormed the base at Zari village, in
northern Borno State late Thursday and briefly seized it after a fierce battle
in which 30 soldiers were killed.
However,
Brig.-Gen. Texas Chukwu, Director, Army Public Relations, in an interview with
NAN on Sunday said the report was a “figment of imagination.’’
Chukwu said
contrary to the claim, the insurgents did not attack any military formation but
rather came to loot foodstuffs and extort money from the locals.
Reacting,
however, Sani in a tweet, called for support for the families the deceased
soldiers left behind.
He tweeted,
“The fresh attacks and killings of our soldiers by the insurgents is
Condemnable. We must continue to appreciate the service and sacrifice of
gallant men and women of the armed forces in this war.May their souls Rest In
Peace. We have a duty to support the families they left behind.”
