Ugboaja, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Abia state and the
Director-General of Uchechukwu Ogah Governorship Campaign Organization, has
criticized the Professor Ben Nwabueze-led Igbo Leaders of Thoughts’ endorsement
of the 2019 presidential bid of former Nigeria Vice President, and Peoples
Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Owojela's
Blog recalls that Atiku received the endorsement during a gathering of Igbo
leaders last Wednesday in Enugu.
Ugboaja who
spoke with newsmen during a press conference, on Tuesday in Umuahia, the Abia
state capital, said the purported endorsement of the PDP presidential flag
bearer by the Igbo leaders was of no consequence.
He said the
purported endorsement of Atiku does not reflect the true position of things in
Igboland, adding that seventy per cent of the people of South-South had
embraced APC and President Muhammadu Buhari.
The APC
stalwart pointed out that returning PDP back to power in 2019 would be
disastrous to the country, stressing that the opposition party has nothing to
offer, as the motive was to get back to power and return Nigeria to the era of
looting.
His words,
“When you check those Igbo leaders that endorsed Atiku, most of them cannot get
five per cent votes in their villages.
“Seventy per
cent of people of Southeast zone is in APC now, because they want to change.
They have seen what Buhari has done within three and a half years.
” Look at
the Second Niger Bridge, for 16 years, PDP never did anything. When PDP was in
power, every electioneer campaign they will promise to work on it. Go there
today, you will see what is going on.
“If you are
coming from Enugu, you will see the kind of job that is being done along on the
Enugu-Port Harcourt road. The Umuahia-IKot Ekpene road has been advertised for
reconstruction. Everywhere in Southeast, things are changing.
“Factories
are being revived. The rail system is working once more. Any project APC
completed, PDP will say they started it. They started it, the then PDP
government paid the contractors and collected the money and abandoned the
projects.
“For 16
years, that was what the past PDP-led government were doing. That is why we had
nothing. And PDP has nothing they can show. Campaigns have started, we want
them to come and tell us what they did.
“Nigerians
are not stupid. Igbos are not stupid. We are not going to go in that way. So,
if you say Igbo leaders, we respect them, they can endorse any person they
want. But, it is of no consequence at all.
“President
Buhari will be back in 2019. I can assure you. Those who vote, are in love with
him. They are going to vote him back into office. Those who are bitter, can
stay in their houses and be bitter.”
